Well I guess we made it another year. 2017, welcome. I had a fantastic start to the new year, I had finished fixing the Moto-Ski on New Years Eve, and took it for another test ride on New Years Day! The test ride went fantastic! The new belt fixed my slipping belt issues, I guess a 7 year old belt just doesn’t work well haha. The recoil spring was replaced and now the starter rope re-winds itself back up so that I can actually start the machine. While I was in there working I decided to disable the oil injection system as well. I removed the gears from the oil pump, disconnected the oil lines, and capped them off at the intake so now it’s just a simple engine that pulls fuel already mixed with oil right from the gas tank. Anywho, here’s the video I filmed on New Years Day. It’s pretty crappily edited and what not but I wanted to get it done before I went back to work and procrastinated. So enjoy!
Well here we go again, we fix things, more things break, then we fix those things. That’s what we’ve done with the Moto-ski. If you’ve seen my last video I talked about how the belt was slipping. Luckily it was just a worn out belt. I tossed a new one on there and no more slipping!
I also had the recoil spring go bad on me which kept the pull start cord from winding itself back in. Got that replaced now. Also disabled the oil injection system. One of the oil lines snapped, and I had to remove the pump and tank to fix the recoil so I just decided to disable it totally and from now on I’ll just premix my gas!
Anywho, all is well and good here, test ride went very well and hopefully I can get back to filming shortly!
Hey guys and gals, Figured I’d do a little throwback to one of my older videos from 2014. This was filmed on my old machine which was stolen, it’s a 2012 Polaris Switchback Assault 800 with a 144″ Track. Super fun machine, I miss it every day! So, enjoy the terribly edited and filmed video. Still waiting for more Moto-Ski parts before I can ride that one again but soon!
Well, it’s that time of year. The snow is here to stay, the temperatures are well below freezing, and the snowmobiles come out to play! I’ve been working on this machine a little bit over the summer to get it running well, take a gander at the video I made last weekend on it’s first actual ride in over 5 years! A shakedown ride to see what else needs work. Enjoy, hopefully more to come this winter!
Well with the snow finally here that means the roads are going to be less than ideal for travel some days. Our first snowfall this past week was not fun for some drivers with a few ending up in the ditches along the highway. I would just like to take a second to remind everyone that you have to adjust your driving for the conditions, regardless of the equipment you have whether it’s winter tires, traction control, etc. you still need to change how you drive for the conditions. When you first pull out onto the highways, if there are no cars around get up a little bit of speed then slam on the brakes to see how slippery the surface of the road is. This little trick will give you a lot of insight into how you need to drive. Leave lots of space between the car in front of you, don’t make any sudden changes in speed or direction, and if you don’t think you can safely handle the road conditions, stay home! Thanks and drive safe everyone!
Well it finally happened, I woke up to snow today! Around 5 inches of wet heavy snow had fallen by the time I woke up, not the best kind of snow but I’ll take it. According to the weather channel, we should be getting up to 30 cm (11 inches) by the time the system is done. That’s pretty exciting in my opinion. I really hope it doesn’t all melt away though, I would LOVE to be able to get the Moto-Ski out riding this coming weekend to see how she does on snow since it’s been about 6 years since the thing has been actually ridden. So fingers crossed on the snow staying, I’ll be sure to have the camera going and recording for the first ride of the season. Stay tuned!
So it’s all ready, here’s a photo of the 1981 Moto-Ski Mirage II I keep talking about. Some quick info, It’s a 377 CC fan cooled twin cylinder two stroke, it’s a Rotax engine. has about 35 HP and will top out around 70 MPH. It’s a super fun sled because It’s incredibly light so throwing it around on the trail is super easy. It’s not the fastest machine out there, but sometimes riding a slower machine all our is more fun than riding a fast machine half throttle.
Well here’s a little throwback to earlier this year, on my birthday. I had booked the week off, and this is what happened on the Monday. Needless to say I spent the rest of the week doing a whole lot of nothing but recovering. Had quite a few cuts and bruises. I guess that’s what happens when you get tossed into a pile of downed trees!
Well we got our first little snowfall, and of course the next day it rained and melted any trace of it. So we’re still waiting. Almost December and still no snow?! Maybe global warming is real….. Still patiently waiting and I’m almost tempted to get my quad fixed and just ride that instead but I really want to get that Moto-Ski some miles on it again! It’s been over 5 years now since that machine has been ridden and I just dropped a couple hundred bucks into fixing it so C’mon weather, bring me some snow!
In case you haven’t noticed (which you haven’t no one comes here LOL) I have a new layout on the website. The old design was just old looking and not very…. well not very good looking or functioning. This new layout and design works a ton better on both desktops and mobile devices. I’m pretty happy with it. Still patiently waiting for it to snow in my area so I can actually get out there and ride the Moto-Ski I just finished getting fixed up. hoping it’s not a brown Christmas this year. We’ll see!
